April 2021 Newsletter

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

Hello Rainbow tribe, the seasons have shifted and with it our themes are changing too.

The 20th of March was Equinox (Autumn in the south and Spring in the North) which is what happens as the sun moves into the fiery sign of Aries.

As you may remember from last year when Aries was our theme (check out the post if you want to refresh https://www.rainbowwisdom.co.za/post/rainbow-wisdom-newsletter-april-2020 ) it is the first sign of the zodiac.

This has inspired our theme for this month, as we will be focusing on the ruling planet of Aries.

Mars

Mars in Roman mythology is the God of War, in Greek mythology he was called Ares.

Ares was not well respected in the Greek Pantheon, said to be violent and cruel, where Mars was looked at as protector of Rome who fights for peace.

We often see this slightly different slant or impression in mythology based on the particular culture writing the story, and their views of the word.

Mars the son of Jupiter and Juno, in the Roman Pantheon he was second only to Jupiter (equivalent to Zeus in Greece).

Said to be the father of the Roman people, because he is the father of the

twins Romulus (founder of Rome) and Remus.

The month of March, which is when we experience the equinox also got its name from Mars.

Due to its blood red colour the planet Mars, was named after the Roman god.

Harnessing Mars…

In astrology, Mars shows us how we assert ourselves and go after what we want. To delve deeper you will need to know where Mars is on your natal chart.

Mars is our masculine expression; this does not relate to gender but rather yang energy which we all have.

It is action oriented, helping us understanding what we want, and how best to get it.

This is full on archetype who wants to get things done. If you have your natal Mars in a fire sign, you will feel this very strongly.

As Mars rules both Aries and Scorpio, these are the two places he will be extra potent, and he is also incredibly happy in the sign of Capricorn.

Mars is least comfortable in Libra, Taurus, and Cancer.

Understanding your natal Mars and how you naturally take action or struggle to take action can be very supportive.

If you like to work with symbolism, the woodpecker, bear and wolf were sacred to Mars, so would be good symbols to use to connect to the inner masculine.

Spotlight Advice

Tuning in with Mars

If you are resonating strongly with this Archetype, then I am going to give you a few suggestions.

Action Steps

1) Reflect: Take some time to watch yourself over the next month and recognize without judgement how you take action. It could be you notice that you struggle to

act on things, or that you react too quickly or any number of other reactions. Awareness is the first step.

2) Ruminate: Once you have noticed how your own personal Mars is operating, don’t rush to remedy the things you don’t like about it.

Start to consider in what sustainable way you could dilute or strengthen certain aspects.

TAKE TIME to be realistic about what is achievable and sustainable and don’t aim for the stars all at once.

3) Take Action: Finally, when you feel ready and have taken at least a few days to reflect and then a few more to ruminate (take more not less time…even if Mars is rushing you), you can begin with small changes done regularly. When you default to your old Martian ways, don’t beat yourself up, recognize and reroute just like a GPS. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Astrology Buzz

Aries March 21st to April 19th This fire sign is the start of a whole new cycle. Time to initiate new things, to get creative, to take action to get what you want. Like I said, our new friend Mars is the ruler of Aries so there will be a strong drive to do so this month.

Taurus April 20th to May 21st After speedy Aries it will be a relief to have Taurus step slowly in. Taurus can be a little lazy and after the fire be careful not to lose all momentum. Let this earth sign help with stamina and follow through, something that Aries sometimes lacks.

Full Moon was in Libra on the 28th opposing the Sun in Aries.

Remember to look at forgiveness at the Full moon phase.

And this last one would be a particular focus on forgiveness within relationships.

This could be forgiving another, forgiving yourself or both.

And just to mention that it was a Super Moon, meaning closer too the Earth and therefore having a stronger effect on us.

Questions you may ask yourself in Aries/Libra;

How can I stand in my own power but also collaborate with others?

If you are Aries dominant – Where do I not compromise in my relationship/s because I want to ‘win’?

If you are Libra dominant – Where am I co-dependent in my relationship/s and unable to assert myself?

If even one of these triggers you on some level, take the time to think about it, journal or meditate on it.

Use these tools mindfully and if you need extra support and guidance, I am available for consultations.

And then we have April’s Full Moon on the 27th in the sign of Scorpio.

As it is at the end of the month, we will look at it in the May newsletter.

New Moon: April New Moon is on the 12th in the sign of Aries.

We would love to welcome you into the Red Tent as we begin our new 12-month cycle round the zodiac.

If you are ready to change your story and heal old wounds, we can support you in delving deeper and giving you tools to live your best life.

This does not mean you won’t have challenge; it means you will be able to use the challenge to grow.

Red Tent

Dark Moon is when women gather in the Red Tent.

This is an ancient tradition that is regaining its popularity as we remember how to hear the whisper of our soul.

As I have an Aries moon, I have decided to share my journey in the red tent this month.

With the benefit of hindsight, I can see that as a young girl just starting my moon cycle I was extremely shut off from and fearful of my femininity.

Leaping forward to gestating and birthing my 3 babies I can now see the sacred feminine was waking up more and more with each of these experiences.

I think it was when I was pregnant with my 2nd child a decade ago, I was given the book the Red Tent to read, set in biblical times, this story spoke to a part of me I could not name.

6 years ago, I finally had the courage to study a red tent facilitator training course and leapt straight into facilitating.

Within a few short months I had learned that to collaborate adds to the magic.

This is a great learning indeed for Aries, who likes to be first and is not always the best at sharing.

But as I studied and facilitated, doing my own work all along the way including today, I have been amazed at how much kinder I am to me, how much more easily I can cope with what life throws my way.

I am able accept when I am struggling and allow myself time to process.

And this is just the tip of my iceberg of benefits.

I believe in this practice, not only because I have seen it work for many women, but because it works for me.

So, with the theme of Mars and a drive to take action to get what we want from life I invite you to jump in headfirst to a journey of self-discovery within a group of amazing and supportive women.

Crystal picks for April

Mars Theme

Carnelian is in my opinion a good stone to work with Martian energy because it has a strong connection to both fire and water which work well with the two Mars ruled signs of Aries and Scorpio. It has a creativity and fluidity to it. I find this to be an easy stone to work with no matter the age or stage of life. It is also easily obtained and very affordable. I enjoy the energy and the vibrant colour and have many of my own pieces and some for sale too.

Garnet is another crystal I feel can really work to enhance the energy of Mars. It is all about abundance, passion, and a zest for life. Garnet is a semi-precious gem that can be used as a substitute for Ruby in healing work. As such it has many similar benefits and if you are blessed with Ruby jewelry you could use that happily to work with Mars.

Blue Calcite and all the calcite family are such a gift to the world. This stone has a soapy physical feel and is opaque with a gentle powder blue colour that will calm an excess of Martian heat and inflammation. Which as you may expect it the area we need to watch when working with this hot planet. It is about learning to balance the action and intensity with downtime and calm. If your Mars energy is excessive I highly recommend a gentle and supportive whilst cooling and calming crystal like blue calcite.

Aromas of the month

Pink Pepper and Roman Chamomile are my pics for Mars.

Pink Pepper is a spice oil, and spices are invigorating and enlivening, just like Mars. It also happens to be an anti-inflammatory which helps to balance the spice and fire. It stimulates digestive, lymphatic, circulatory, muscular and metabolic systems. Lift’s depression and fuels our passion. We go from feeling blue to in the pink so to speak.

Roman Chamomile often makes the newsletter and is a must have. It is kind of the opposite of Mars, so this is the oil I suggest you bring in to calm the wildfire.

It is a herb oil, so always helpful with achieving balance especially from a digestive and muscular perspective. It is as soothing and cooling of inflamed or irritated skin issues as it is soothing and cooling for internal inflammatory issues or having the same effect on mind and mood.

Uses and Blend suggestions:

Passionate and Purposeful add 3 drops Pink Pepper, 3 drops Roman Chamomile in your diffuser.

Enjoy this yin yang balancing blend.

Spicy Massage – into 15ml of carrier oil (fractionated coconut, grapeseed, sweet almond etc) add;

4 drops Pink Pepper, 2 drops Cinnamon, 3 drops Copaiba and 1 drop Cedarwood.

This will be great for a self-massage but even nicer for a couples massage. It is a nice gender-neutral scent to spice things up in true Mars style.
