Can you recognize and accept the different Aspects of yourself?

December 2022

We made it to the end of 2022, wow, it has been an intense year for me and for almost everyone I know.

And this Eclipse season we just moved through was a doozy too!

Well done, you got through.

Remember last month we looked at the Houses in astrology?

Hopefully if you hadn’t before you have now drawn up a natal chart on Astro-seek.com or Astro.com

Because this month I want to explain the Aspects.

Astrology is such a vast and complex system that has been used by the ancients for eons…most of us do not want to study the intricacies but would love to use its guidance in our lives.

That is where I come in with this simplified but informative perspective for you.

Aspects in Astrology

A reminder, in Astrology we look at Who, Where and How to understand some of the puzzle.

Who – The Planets

Where – The Houses

How – The Signs

I do have posts on my website www.rainbowwisdom.co.za covering the Planets, the Signs and last month’s Houses, should you want to refresh on any of those.

Aspects are what help us to understand the relationships within the chart.

How do your Sun and Moon get on?

Are your thinking self (Mercury) and your doing self (Mars) on the same page or at odds?

This is definitely something a beginner can understand with the basics but a reminder that it does take a lot of practice and patience to get more confident at interpreting charts.

And that is just what it is, it is one person’s interpretation, based on their understanding of the language and the lens through which they are looking.

So, you could have your chart read by one hundred astrologers and learn something new each time.

Equally you can look at your chart every day for the rest of your life and find something interesting.

We are going to keep it simple and look only at the 5 Ptolemaic Aspects today.

If you look at an Astrology chart, in the middle you will see a mass of red and blue lines.

At its most basic the red lines are the more ‘challenging’ aspects and the blue lines are the more ‘harmonious’ aspects.

By now I am sure you have realized nothing in life is just black and white, or blue and red in this case, but at its core that is a quick aspect hack to help you remember.

The Conjunction – 2 planets in the same place (or only a few degrees apart).

This can be like too many cooks in the kitchen, or a fight for the covers as two planets are in bed together.

It will be informed by which planets, which sign and which house.

Suffice to say even if the planets get on with one another and like the energy of the sign or they don’t, it will be a LOT of energy in one area of life which will have its tense moments.

The Opposition – 2 planets at 180 degrees from each other…opposite

Think tug-of-war, they are polarized and represent opposite points of view.

This will always be a challenge to mitigate internally because it would be like trying to placate waring siblings on opposite sides of the room, you can only focus on one at a time and feel constantly pulled between the two.

The Square – planets at 90 degrees from one another.

Pressure to change.

Think of a right angle and a planet on either side, both adamant that their way is the right way and a rather stubborn refusal to compromise.

This creates uncomfortable pressure, but if we surrender, we may transform into a diamond.

The Trine – 120 degrees between planets

Benevolence and generosity abound with a trine, these two planets want to do all they can to support one another.

The Sextile – a 60-degree separation

Yummy, think ease and grace for this aspect. It is a complimentary relationship.

This is what we will play with, but please note there is always more depth with astrology such as aspect patterns when we bring in more planets linking to one another in different aspects but let’s keep it simple for now.

How does this help?

Well first off, it may help you to have at least one professional reading so you have an understanding of what you are looking at, where your biggest potentials are for challenge and for success.

Now you bring out your chart and start to look at the relationships or lack of relationship between planets.

If you have Mars conjunct Saturn (same place) in Leo in the 12th house…breathe, I know that sounds like a mouthful, but let’s turn it into a sentence.

I want what I want and I want it now (Mars).

Too bad buddy, if you don’t put in the work, you won’t get the rewards (Saturn).

There could be a lot of internal frustration, a part of you is a bratty rule breaker and another part of you wants to be a wise and benevolent leader with a good reputation (and great hair)…the internal conflict will be happening behind closed doors (12th house) others may never know your deep struggle with self.

Ignoring sign and house for a moment let’s do a few more examples.

Sun Pluto oppositionI am constantly being forced by circumstance and life to transform; it is an unpleasant experience that leads to something positive.

Moon Pluto opposition – Life leads me to these hugely transformative emotional tsunamis.

It is like breaking apart and coming through stronger.

Same aspect and one mutual planet…can you see the nuance of the experience?

Moon square MercuryI think I know what I need to do, but it feels wrong.

Then when it feels right, I can’t decide if it is the right choice.

How can I get my head and my heart to agree!

Moon Trine Jupiter – I have a huge emotional capacity, which can feel overwhelming but I always seem to have the support and protection I need.

I am blessed.

Venus Moon sextile – My needs and wants tend to align, I attract emotionally supportive women into my life.

Venus Mars sextile – My relationships with the opposite sex are usually a great combination of love and passion, my values and my drive are aligned.

This gives you a few examples to work with, and if you look at your own chart let it speak to you as you contemplate some of your Aspects.

Think of what each planet represents, and look at their relationship to one another…close your eyes breathe and feel how that plays out in your body, mind, heart and life.

Astrology is about getting to know yourself better.

Uncovering parts you have not yet accessed and becoming more of yourself, by accepting the tough stuff and appreciating your strengths.

Sagittarius Nov 23rd to Dec 21st If you aren’t on holiday yet you soon will be. Or if you work a seasonal job, you are about to get busy. Either way Sag likes some fun and adventure, so be sure to find some where you can. Summer Solstice in the South or Winter Solstice in the North happens as the sun shifts from Sagittarius into Capricorn.

Capricorn Dec 22nd to Jan 21stat this point we can feel the season shift and the new year is about to begin…many of us become all business again before the holiday is even done, feeling the pressure to be ready to build, manage and practically apply ourselves to work and home in 2023.

Mars Retrograde

Retrograde began on October 30th and will only go direct on January 12th which is more than 10 weeks. Don’t try to force things to happen, or you may force one way and have to come back and do it another way.

Energy levels may swing from high to low, as may your inner thermostat.

Both is feeling feverishly hot and then cold and also emotionally hot and then cold.

Mars only retrogrades every 18 months or so and these are usually big changes in how we act and react.

This retrograde is happening in Gemini so the fact is there will be reflections on the fact that there is more than one way to do things.

This ties in with the Saturn Uranus square, old verses new conversations of last year.

What is changing not only for you and in your life, but in your community, country and even the world.

So much to work with here, if you have planets or points in the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces, you may want a personal reading or healing session to support this energy.

Full Moon

December Full Moon is in Gemini on the 8th opposing the Sun in Sagittarius.

Wowzers, we are really not being given enough time right now to slack off and fall back into our old ways.

I know we should be grateful for that as it begets progress for us individually and as a collective, but being in the trenches can be muddy, bloody and exhausting.

This Full Moon in Gemini is exactly conjunct Mars Retrograde and Mercury has run ahead to the exact degree of the next New Moon.

Here is my full moon forecast on YouTube.

Physically for Gemini and Sagittarius, shoulders, arms, hands, hips, glutes, sacrum, sciatic, liver and nervous system.

New Moon

Capricorn New Moon is on the 23rd of Dec.

Isn’t it funny how often just before Christmas, we are ticking off to do lists for Christmas and New Year gatherings and our minds start running ahead to the back to school/work/reality.

Well, that is Capricorn energy, very responsible.

We hate the restrictive stuck in the mud aspect, but appreciate when we feel safe and organized.

Aromatherapy Made Simple

As the silly season is filled with mosquitoes and too much sun in South Africa, I thought I would put up some useful recipes this month.

These are my recipe’s but feel free to adapt them depending on what oils you have on hand, or add the ones you don’t to your Christmas list now.

Mozzie Cream – in 500ml tub of Aqueous Cream

30 drops each Citronella, Lavender & Lemongrass

20 drops each Peppermint & Cedarwood

This blend ratio is safe for children and the elderly, but if you want to up the ratio to your personal preference you could double the essential oil ratio if between 16 and 60 years old.

After Sun Gel – I prefer a gel than a cream for after sun treatment, I use a neutral gel but an aloe vera works well or even a tissue oil or fractionated Coconut oil can be used.

200 ml Gel, 50 drops Lavender and 20 drops Peppermint (20-30 drops Chamomile can be added if you have).

Christmas Cookies – Use a simple cookie dough for cutting cookies, find some fun cutters and split your dough into 3. I do this with my kids but play dough for grownups is fun too.

I like to go traditional with colouring one red, one green and one stays the same. There are natural colorants like beetroot but I just throw caution to the wind this time of year.

Pick your flavors, not all oils are ingestible and I would only recommend doTERRA for those that are based on the quality.

Here are our favorite's.

On Guard in the red dough, it is all the Christmas spices and smells…add 3- 5 drops and taste, it does cook out a bit in the baking.

Wild Orange in the neutral (and sometimes choc chips), cause we all know chocolate and orange are a match made in heaven.

Peppermint for the green, or we leave one flavor straight cookie.

Some we cut plain in their colour and others we begin to mix for effect.

Much fun is had and a large jar of Christmas cookies brings us all from silly season to a festive reason.

Use any oils that are 100% pure essential oils, not fragrance oils.

I highly recommend doTERRA which is CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade).

Do you want to use the magic of doTERRA essential oils to support your growth?

Note: How Fast do Essential oils work?

It takes 22 seconds for the molecules to reach the brain.

In 2 minutes, Essential oils will be found in the bloodstream.

By 20 minutes they will affect every cell in the body

Remember to write your blends in your blend book so you remember what you liked and what you didn’t.
