Happy New Year Rainbow tribe may your continued growth bring all the magic your soul requires.
But as it is Capricorn season it is in fact time to put aside the excesses of Jupiter and look to the somewhat sterner Saturn this month.
In the hope of getting on track for a good 2022.
Cronus
Cronus in Greek mythology or Saturn in the Roman pantheon is our leading man this month.
Known as the Lord of Time or Grandfather Time, he was the youngest Titan son of earth and sky, Gaia and Ouronus.
Though he was the youngest he was the only one willing to be Gaia’s champion and free her from the torment of having their children trapped inside of her.
Ouronus (Uranus) who is the topic of our February newsletter had banished the monstrous children he was ashamed of to live inside the earth (Gaia).
Gaia fashioned a stone sickle for her youngest son and hero Cronus to overthrow his father and free her banished children.
He did this by waiting for the sky god to envelope Gaia in a sexual embrace, at which point Cronus sprung his trap and castrated his father. Hence the severing of earth and sky, or archetypally our mind from our bodies.
But he was just as tyrannical as his father and did not free his monstrous siblings.
Cronus took his sister Rhea (meaning flow) as his consort.
This became known as the Golden Age where tyrant or not his was a good time for humanity.
There was no immorality at this time so there was no hardship for humans.
But his parents divined that Cronus would be dethroned just as he had dethroned his father.
To avoid this fate, the Titan swallowed his children whole as soon as they were born.
Rhea had to watch him swallow Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades and Poseidon. It became more and more unbearable for her each time.
Finally, Rhea reaches out to her own mother (and the mother of Cronus) Gaia for help.
Gaia comes up with a plan for Rhea to deceive her husband by secretly giving birth to Zeus in Greece and then disguising a rock as the baby and giving it to Cronus to eat instead of baby Zeus.
Zeus was then hidden and when he came of age he challenged his father, freeing his siblings from Cronus’ belly.
This leads to the war between the Titans and the Olympians, which the
Olympians ultimately win.
Several possible endings are written for Cronus. Hacked to pieces and flung into Tartarus, castrated just as he castrated his own father, or more optimistically made king of Elysium.
His symbols are the sickle, scythe, grain, and snake.
Harnessing Saturn…
Saturn in astrology is a malefic planet, meaning it brings challenge.
Saturn is the karmic planet that demands we do the work we promised to do in this lifetime.
If we don’t do our work Saturn is like a strict old headmaster.
He can be punitive, cold, demanding, rigid and more.
Before the invention of the telescope, Jupiter and Saturn were the furthest planets worked with, because they are the furthest of the ‘moving stars’ that could be seen with the naked eye.
These gas giants are almost like the wise elders…two grandfathers we may say.
With Jupiter being the fun one who lets us overindulge on sugar and play time, no naps or baths or teeth brushing necessary.
We leave our visits wanting to go back…our parents however receive us filthy exhausted and hopped up on sugar.
Then there is our other grandfather, Saturn.
We never want to visit him, he makes us do chores, teaches us how to build our own tree house, makes us work hard to earn our lunch of sandwiches and apples before putting us back to work.
We will be sure to brush our teeth, wash behind our ears, eat or our vegetables, never back chat and get to bed early cause we know it will be another early start and more hard work the next day.
From the perspective of a child, it is clear to see we would want to visit the benefic Jupiter rather than the malefic Saturn.
However, over time we learn that our time with Saturn has taught us valuable life lessons.
Saturn demands we put in effort over time, to achieve mastery at life.
This is not the quick fix ‘want’ of society today but the ‘need’ to develop healthy habits, good boundaries, self-discipline, the ability to work hard at the things we want to get good at.
Little by little, day by day, year by year, we learn to be grateful for our demanding grandfather and all the important life lessons he taught us.
Even though he knew he was the less popular one, he loved us enough to be the play that role.
Saturn is the ruler the sign of Capricorn (hence our theme) and Aquarius (whose modern ruler is Uranus).
He also loves to be in Libra, as justice is his happy place.
He is less comfortable in Cancer, Leo and Aries.
It takes Saturn about 28 years to do a full 360-degree journey around the chart. Which means he spends over 2 years in a sign.
Wherever he is journeying and whatever planets he is touching in your chart will be where you need to put in some effort, and usually face some uncomfortable lessons.
It is all but impossible to be unscathed by Saturn transits.
That said, if you do your work, Saturn is far less punishing.
7-year cycles are very helpful when working with this demanding archetype. Though he is very demanding, if you work in his class his lessons are very rewarding.
Saturn rules bones, teeth, buildings, government and time.
Where Saturn is in your natal chart gives good insight into your life purpose.
Example – I have Saturn in Virgo in the 1st house: I am a hard-working service-oriented person (Virgo). I am my work and need to find the balance between caring for my own needs and health and caring for that in others (1st house).
Spotlight Advice
Tuning in with Saturn
If you are resonating strongly with this Archetype, then I am going to give you a few suggestions.
This is one of the most transformational planets to work with. Remember the caterpillar to butterfly process is far from simple.
It is always helpful to have a guide or mentor when doing a study of the self… it can be very hard to be objective with yourself.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me for coaching, guiding, or healing.
Action Steps
1) What is my Destiny? First you need to know what sign your natal Saturn is in and knowing the house is useful too.
But I want to give some examples now of just the Element your Saturn is in, as a key piece to understanding your purpose.
Fire Saturn – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Saturn is a cold slow planet, hot and fast are not his speed. You are not here to be a wall flower, but rather to be bold, to stand up and stand out, agitate patterns, get into conflict. Your destiny is to speak, fight and pursue the things that others fear…are you doing that?
Earth Saturn – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Your promise is to learn discipline, structure, commitment, follow through. To learn about money and practicality, ethics and details. Slow and steady is Saturn and Earth energy, little by little, see things through. If not, Saturn will place obstacles to teach you how.
Air Saturn – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Your destiny is to learn to use your mind, and your words in right relationship with yourself and others. Are you communicating, or are you shutting down? Relationships are a huge part of the Air Saturn promise, avoiding them is turning your back on your destiny.
Water Saturn – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Oh, baby have you chosen a big one, if you have a water Saturn, best you accept that you promised to be a big wave surfer in this lifetime. Those would be waves of emotion. Much as you want to numb, avoid, and pull away from the big feels of your watery karma, you need to dive in and learn from your extreme emotional sensitivity. Don’t play the “I am too scared” or “I don’t want to talk about it” game. Your sensitivity is a gift, not a curse…It can be hard to tell the difference often times.
2) Where is Saturn now? Saturn started to go back and forth into Aquarius in
2020, settled into his transit of this sign all of 2021 and 2022 and it will be March of 2023 before he finally leaves it all behind and moves into Pisces.
All of us must put some effort into this new and better framework. How can we be more community conscious, collaborative, cooperative? How can we flip the script from top-down power as it has been to power together?
For those with Natal Saturn in Aquarius, this whole period is your Saturn return, you know when you are in a Saturn return. This is round your 28th to 30th year (1st Saturn return) or (2nd Saturn return) round 57-60 years old.
Do you have planets or points in Aquarius? If so they are needing some work and effort right now.
3) Take Stock In 12 step programs, step 4 comes to mind as a very good Saturnian exercise.
Made a Searching and Fearless Moral Inventory of Ourselves
Simple it is not, nor is it a fast process, but rather something that takes, time, dedication, courage, honesty, grit and follow through.
Have you ever undertaken such a task as this? I think it is an exercise that never really has an ending, but rather becomes a regular part of our inner work.
I am here to support through looking at your personal Saturn cycles if this speaks to you. Saturn does not approve of Short Support, he wants time to delve and deliver his message, so this will only be available as an hour long session with a special price for this month only of R450 USD40

Astrology Buzz
I am still offering Understanding Venus Retrograde in my life R250 Short Support this month.
Venus Retrograde in Capricorn started on the 19th of Dec until January 29th 2022. Venus only goes retrograde every 18 months and it is a time to re-evaluate what we value, our own self-worth, how we love and how we want to be loved. This time we are looking at these things through a Capricorn lens.
We also can see in which area in our life this is showing up most and therefore it gives us the opportunity to do our work consciously and intentionally, rather than just be bulldozed by the Universe.
Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius and Capricorn starts on 14th Jan to the 4th of Feb. The next three Mercury Retrogrades will fall across the cusp of an air and an earth sign, before we end 2022 with a Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn.
Can you see how intense the Capricorn and Saturnian process is still playing out for some time. Restructure on many different levels and layers.

New Moon: January New Moon is on the 2nd in the sign of Capricorn.
Red Tent with the Lunar Lionesses
As we look to the Moon this month within the context of our Saturn theme, I want to point out to you how the moon has a 28 day cycle to Saturn’s 28 year cycle.
The Moon draws things to us, into our body and material world.
Saturn is all about bones, frameworks, structures…the material things we build.
As you do your Moon work and tap into the 4x7 day cycles it is like little bricks in the castle of the 4x7 year cycles with Saturn.
It is a bite sized and more quickly apparent way to start with Saturn through your Moon work.

Full Moon
January full moon is in Cancer on the 17th opposing the Sun in Capricorn.
These are both cardinal signs, which means we have strong and conflicting ideas of how to initiate change.
Cancer with its nurturing emotional energy does not want to push for answers and results, but gently nudge and support from the side.
Capricorn prefers to tackle things in a more straightforward way, if the shortest rout is also the steepest, so be it. No gentle cajoling here, just strives for results.
Physically look to the stomach, breasts, womb, knees, backbone, joints, skin, and hair.
On this Full Moon, both Venus and Mercury will be Retrograde. Big Reflections to be had, what would Saturn want you to work on?
Questions are tailored to the exact planetary alignment over this Full Moon.
They will be most potent if started over the 3 days of Full moon 16th, 17th and 18th, there is never a wrong time to reflect however, all is in divine timing.
Questions you may ask yourself in Cancer/Capricorn.
Reflecting on what I value most at home and at work, is there a good balance? If not, what could I do to improve it?
If you are Cancer dominant – What feelings do I need to face head on to break through some old patterning?
If you are Capricorn dominant – What needs to transform for my relationships to flourish?
If even one of these triggers you on some level, take the time to think about it, journal or meditate on it.
Use these tools mindfully and if you need extra support and guidance, I am available for consultations.
Crystal picks for January
Saturn Theme
Iolite encourages self-mastery which is very Saturnian. It is sometimes known as the compass stone, stemming back to the Viking days.
They would get on these wooden boats and sail into unknown lands with just the structure of the boat and a courage, determination, and steady focus.
It is also called the vision stone and encourages us to go on the archetypal journey of self-discovery.
Like Saturn, it wants us to do our work.
Iolite also supports our bodies if we have been overindulging, naturally helping us to detox and digest.
Galena has a high lead content, and Saturn rules over lead. This heavy, metallic grey crystal feels Saturnian the moment you touch it. There is a weight that slows you down, a feeling of the old ball and chain.
But if you don’t resist this restrictive feeling, but relax into the weight of it, it can be like a soothing weighted blanket.
If we allow ourselves to follow Galena’s lead and go slow and steady, the effect is the opposite of what we first thought. Rather than being restrictive it helps us to break self-restrictive beliefs.
Being lead based, do not place in your water bottle or make elixirs using the direct method. Remember that crystals with a toxic aspect work very well to heal but need to be used wisely.
Amazonite is very useful in managing calcium levels and mineral levels in general. As Saturn rules bones, joints and teeth Amazonite is a good crystal to support your body’s structure while working with Saturn.
It is a calming and creative stone that helps us to express that which is stuck in our throat. It is a great stone to work on your thyroid gland too.
Amazonite can be used on the heart chakra, and calming monkey mind, making it a good bridge for head and heart. We then embody to our bones the wisdom of this connection.
Re_member that when the Titan Cronus dis_membered his father the sky (mind) as he came to consummate with his mother the Earth (body) our Mind Body connection was severed…the heart is the key to connecting them again.
Disclaimer: crystals should not be used as cures but rather as support.
Whoop whoop, you can even book a crystal healing session from anywhere in the world via my website now.
Aromas of the month
Siberian Fir and Wintergreen are my pics for Saturn.
Siberian Fir is at once grounding and refreshing. And is my pic for Saturn because like slow and cold planet trees take a long slow journey to establish into a wise and towering tree.
This is also a cooling oil working on pain and inflammation. Particularly useful in use for arthritis, rheumatism, osteoporosis, and gout.
But not limited to the bones it also works to counterbalance some of the Saturnian challenges of constriction, slowing and cooling. Siberian Fir improves circulation, low blood pressure, sluggish digestion and aching muscles.
Wintergreen is more of a warming anti-inflammatory.
I always love how it is pink in colour but has green in the name, both the heart chakra colours.
And it will warm the cockle of your heart, your extremities, and your joints in its relieving and repairing way.
If you do your Saturn work Wintergreen can help move you from Stubborn to Accepting…yes please I say.
doTERRA is CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade)
Uses and Blend suggestions:
Rub a dub dub – don’t let Saturn turn you to stone, get moving and do what Saturn demands of you.
But to keep the challenge at bay you can make a roller for joint and muscle pain. I suggest daily application, Remember Saturn likes effort over time.
In a 10ml roller add 10 drops Siberian Fir and 5 drops Wintergreen (optional to add another 3-5 drops of Turmeric or Chamomile) and top with carrier oil.
I usually use Fractionated Coconut oil, Sweet Almond or Grapeseed.
Get Organized – 4 drops Siberian Fir, 3 drops Cypress and 6 drops Lime into your diffuser and enjoy. You will breathe deeper and slower, and your mind will find focus and clarity.
Let me know if you like these blends, recipes, and suggestions.
