July 2021 Newsletter

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

Happy July to you all, and into the second half of the year we go.

We have just experienced solstice the deepest Yin or Feminine time of the year in the Southern Hemisphere or the height of Yang/Masculine energy in the Northern hemisphere.

Before we dive into this month’s theme, remember you can find the posts on Mars, Venus and Mercury here too.

This month will be tough for me to choose what to share as our theme is Grandmother Moon.

I have worked strongly with the moon consciously for the last 6 or 7 years, but like most of us, unconsciously for my whole life.

My parents must have known on some level the importance that the Moon would have in my life as Cindy means moon.

On that note…where to begin.

Moon

From a myth perspective it becomes a little harder to simplify as every culture had at least one moon goddess.

I have always loved how long before there was the internet or even the ability to travel the world, when you look at the myths from various cultures, there are archetypes (gods and goddesses) that may go by different names but manifest largely the same way.

For me at least this gets my mind opening to the why’s and how’s.

Greek Mythology saw Selene as the moon goddess. Daughter of Titans and sister to Helios the sun god (we will look at the sun next month).

Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness and wild animals as well as the Moon and chastity.

Who also happens to be sister to Apollo, yet another sun god…we cannot escape the relationship between sun and moon.

Romans saw Lunar as the divine embodiment of the moon, seen as the female counterpart to Sol (the sun).

Lunar and Hecate are often seen as embodiments of the triple goddess.

Which depicts the 3 stages of women – maiden, mother, crone (this word has become and insult, but actually represents the wisdom that comes with age)

Chandra is a Hindu lunar deity, and as mentioned we could go on and on.

Interesting to note that there are male lunar deities too.

And when reflecting on many of the ancient civilizations the gender ascribed to various archetypes has sometimes been opposite to what I am going to share.

Perhaps as the pendulum swung from predominantly matriarchal to patriarchal the energy shifted.

Best to keep an open mind and trust what feels right to you.

As to that, I resonate very strongly with the Native Americans on this.

Grandmother Moon

Grandfather Sun

Father Sky and

Mother Earth

Harnessing Moon…

Grandmother moon being the element of Water as she controls the tides and emotion.

In astrology, Moon shows us what we need (not what we want, that is Venus).

She also connects to what we feel, our moods and how we mother, nurture and protect ourselves and others.

Grandmother Moon rules the sign of Cancer the crab…who I prefer to call Moonchild and loves to be in Taurus.

She is less comfortable in Capricorn and Scorpio.

In parenting I believe knowing your child’s moon sign is hugely helpful in developing their natural and individual EQ (emotional intelligence).

Up until the age of 7 children are more their moon than anything else.

If you had early childhood development traumas, then knowing your moon will go a long way to healing your inner child.

To delve deeper you will need to know your natal moon.

This is a huge part of the Red Tent practice.

See a brief synopsis of how to utilise the 8 phases of the moon in the Red Tent section of this newsletter.

Using the Moon in conscious Parenting

I thought I would give a little example of how understanding my children’s natal moon sign helps me to parent them the way they need rather than the way I need.

I am an Aries moon so patience for emotional dramas is not my strong point. I also like to ‘fix’ things quickly, which can have me rushing my kids and getting pushy (like a ram).

Now I won’t pretend I don’t react from this billy goat gruff self often enough, but on my good days I consider the need of each child and act on that.

Rather than being reactive from my own emotions.

My Capricorn moon child – I need order, I need a plan, I need to do it my way, don’t try to force me or I will dig my heels in and stubbornly and

stoically take any punishment you dish out. I get bossy when my feelings don’t feel organized, let me organize. I know what I need.

Me – give Capricorn space, do not over mother but do be there when asked. Trust the time Capricorn needs will be longer than I want but that is not my business. Give your Capricorn tools to help organise in order to feel safe.

My Leo moon child – I need to be seen and recognised. Give me a stage and a little drama, it’s not personal I am just having fun. Build me up…no more.

Never shame me in public, my self-esteem will crumble. I need to be creative, I need to be adored. Prove you love me by serving me as a king.

Me – Do not take Leo personally, allow the dramatic expression of all emotions. Teach Leo that there are other people in the play, and though Leo is the main role, be aware of the needs of the other characters. Give Leo the tools he to serve himself…he is not really a king after all and treating him that way will not prepare him for the real world.

My Gemini moon child – I just need some more information; I don’t understand what I am feeling or what is happening. Please talk to me, I like to

chat. I need to express to feel understood. I don’t mean to change my mind and mood all the time, I can’t help it…tell me you still love me. I need to hear it.

Me – Make time to listen to Gemini, and to give Gem lots of information and feedback. Teach Gemini that even if it has not been said to trust the feeling of love. Teach Gemini that words can build up or break down and to be mindful of that. Help Gemini develop tools to calm, slow and self sooth if the external expressions are not enough to fill their cup.

Spotlight Advice

Tuning in with Moon

If you are resonating strongly with this Archetype, then I am going to give you a few suggestions.

Action Steps

1) Feel your feelings: this may seem obvious, but I see it time and time again in my work and in myself.

We all have lots of sneaky ways to avoid feeling our feelings.

Especially the uncomfortable ones, the so called ‘bad’ feelings.

The truth is there are no bad feelings.

Some may feel unpleasant, but that doesn’t make them bad.

Without the challenging emotions, we would have no reference point for the ones we want to feel.

Joy, love, ecstasy, passion, excitement, hope, happy and so on.

The interesting thing is once you take the time sit with your emotions, you may even find that you are often as afraid of the ‘good’ emotions as the ‘bad’ ones. Do you self-sabotage your own happiness?

2) Intuition: Now that your emotions are leading you to ask questions perhaps it is becoming clearer.

Your emotions are your intuitive guidance system, not a weakness.

In fact, it takes more courage to be vulnerable than to act tough and strong.

The more access you give to your feelings and the more you understand them the more self-compassion and self-love you develop.

With that comes grit, to deal with anything life throws you.

It also begins to dissolve judgement and develop more compassion for others.

3) Feeling and Dealing: Now that you know what it is that you have been feeling and you are learning to trust your emotions.

Start to look at where in your body you feel the response to the various emotions.

Now deal with it.

For example; when I feel unheard I clench my jaw and create neck pain and headaches.

Now that I know I will speak up, or journal my feelings or scream into the wind to avoid the feelings getting stuck.

Or my IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) is triggered by stress and anxiety from having too much on my plate.

Now that I understand that I will not take on more until I get on top of what I already have and I will find time to meditate for 10 min every day, watch what I eat get some exercise.

It is often easier to look at what are the physical symptoms and what emotion do you feel they are connecting to?

Astrology Buzz

Cancer June 22nd to July 22nd I chose the moon this month because Cancer is the sign ruled by the moon. You may find yourself being very nostalgic, sensitive, and sentimental this time of year.

Never fear it’s the season for it, and if tradition feels more important than usual go with it but know that you may be extra moody if you are not taking care of yourself.

Leo July 23rd to Aug 22nd from the moon ruled Cancer into the sun ruled Leo. You may say these two are like day and night. With that in mind, prepare to go from emotional and reflective into energised and ready to go, go, go.

Leo also prefers to project manage than to do the ‘dirty work’.

New Moon:

July New Moon is on the 10th in the sign of Cancer.

Time to seed your intentions, as we begin a new month.

Red Tent with the Lunar Lionesses

New Moon is when women gather in the Red Tent, it is the beginning of the lunar cycle of 28 days.

Within the lunar cycle we have 8 phases.

Even if you just worked with New Moon phase this will have a huge impact on your emotional health and wealth.

Most of us cannot avoid admiring the Full Moon in all her glory.

As promised though I am going to give you a nutshell look at the 8 lunar phases and how you can work with them…or join our Red Tent and we will teach you how.

New Moon – Plant your seeds of Intention. New beginnings.

Crescent Moon – Sit with the intention and the feelings that arise. Relax, breathe and receive.

1st Quarter Moon – Take discerning action towards your intention. Manage your expectations.

Gibbous Moon – Trust the process, stay the course, develop and evaluate.

Full Moon – The Fruition phase, practice gratitude and forgiveness. Most dynamic phase where emotions and insight are high.

Disseminating Moon – Be gentle, breathe, process the insights and share your feelings.

Last Quarter – Release what no longer serves you. Then step away from yourself and give back to someone in any way big or small.

Balsamic – Deep rest and reflection over the last lunar cycle, before beginning again.

Please follow us on Instagram for moon phase messages and more https://www.instagram.com/lunarlionesses/

We learn to use the Moon’s navigational pull alongside the energy of the astrological sign she is passing through, to support us and our emotions as we navigate life.

As we learn the ancient wisdom of Grandmother Moon and how to sow your seeds of intention at New Moon and to nurture those seeds intentionally through the month, magic happens.

Full Moon

Full Moon phase is the most dynamic and often the most intense phase of the month.

I have a love hate relationship with it and a deep respect.

Do you remember as a child being taught to never turn your back on the sea and to always respect the ocean?

Just a little reminder that it is Grandmother Moon who controls the tide, so respect her cycles and her lessons.

Never turn your back on her.

Sight the moon in all her phases as often as possible and nurture your needs, she demands it.

July full moon is in Aquarius on the 24th opposing the Sun in Leo.

These are both fixed signs, which means they are slow to change and will fixate until a job is done.

Leo is large and in charge, where Aquarius is hive mind.

Here are some questions to reflect on that energy.

Questions you may ask yourself in Leo/Aquarius.

How can I find the balance between being a self-confident individual and making time for myself to shine, while recognising we are all one and I am no better or worse than anyone else?

If you are Leo dominant – Where am I so full of my own self-importance that I stop thinking about the needs of all?

If you are Aquarius dominant – Where am I so fixated on the big picture that I come across as cold and detached when dealing with people one on one?

If even one of these triggers you on some level, take the time to think about it, journal or meditate on it.

Use these tools mindfully and if you need extra support and guidance, I am available for consultations.

Crystal picks for July

Moon Theme

Moonstone as the name suggests, has a strong connection to the moon, our emotions, and hormonal rhythms.

A women’s hormonal cycle is linked to the lunar cycle and this little gem can help to get our hormones in sync.

It also gives access to our deep often stagnant emotions helping to bring them up to be resolved or even released.

Selenite is a beautiful, and somewhat fragile stone that has a high frequency and works quickly to raise our vibration.

For me it links to the moon goddess Selene, having a gentle, flowing energy. Gentle and intensely effective. Which shows us a different kind of strength to that which we have been taught to expect.

Rhodochrosite is a lovely pink stone with an open-hearted feel.

With her help your heart will open too, it may not always be comfortable because an open heart means the breakdown of all the walls, we have put up to protect ourselves over the years.

Rhodochrosite encourages you to sit with the feelings, do not block their flow.

Disclaimer: crystals should not be used as cures but rather as support.

Aromas of the month

Rose and Bergamot are my pics for Grandmother Moon.

If Frankincense is the King of oils, Rose is the Queen. And yes, her price reflects her queenly stature.

This is a scent that is powerfully evocative.

It works on some of our deepest needs, which is why with Grandmother Moon as our theme I have chosen beautiful rose.

It taps into our need for intimacy and takes us from feeling isolated to feeling loved.

I think we can all agree the word isolation has taken on a whole new meaning.

This oil also is a sedative which supports with grief and depression.

Then there are the amazing skin and wound care benefits.

Bergamot is for you if you are feeling overwhelmed, inadequate, or stressed. As it is a citrus oil it lifts and lightens, but it is less excitable than the other citrus oils.

It is also good for insomnia or addiction, and we cannot forget it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and a neurotonic to boot.

Combined with rose we have a powerful blend which I love as a pure_fume (perfume).

Uses and Blend suggestions:

Mellow Mood To a 10ml roller bottle add 20 drops Rose (the doTERRA rose comes in a prediluted roller, so you would be using diluted drops, hence 20), 10 drops Bergamot top with carrier oil.

This is magical to mellow your mood.

I love to wear my oils and let my mood and the aroma settle together.

As always a little used often is the best way to get results with your oils.

Grief Counsellor – Option for diffusing and or a (roller).

5 (10) drops Bergamot, 2(4) drops Vetiver, 2(4) drops Clary Sage and 3 (6) drops of Geranium also known as poor man’s rose. (Roller – top with carrier oil)

If in a roller and you have Rose feel free to substitute it for the Geranium just up the drops till you are happy with the aroma.

Remember to roll closest to the pain.

Normally we do this to the physical…sore tum, roll there.

But now I am suggesting you roll to the emotional feeling.

Heartsore role over the heart.

Feeling fear in your kidney’s roll there.

Biting back how you are feeling, roll on the jaw etc.

Note: How Fast do Essential oils work?

It takes 22 seconds for the molecules to reach the brain.

In 2 minutes, Essential oils will be found in the bloodstream.

By 20 minutes they will affect every cell in the body
