June 2021 Newsletter

Updated: Jun 4, 2021

Hello Rainbow tribe, how are you coping through Eclipse season?

You may remember we are looking at the planets as themes.

We have looked at Mars and Venus so far.

Links below if you missed those.

This month, we look at the personal planet Mercury, who rules both Gemini and Virgo.

Before I begin just to say the last week of May was super intense with Saturn stationing retrograde on the 23rd an Eclipse on the 26th and Mercury stationing retrograde in his home sign of Gemini on the 29th…eek.

There is nothing we can do to stop the movement of the solar system when it feels like a roller coaster and we would rather get off.

But what we can do is learn how and why it impacts us, learn how to work with rather than resist the inevitable energy influences and to remember this too shall pass.

Here is an old post if you want to refresh on retrogrades.

Mercury

Mercury is the Roman version of the Greek god Hermes.

Son of Jupiter (Zeus) and Maia, who was one of the 7 daughters of Atlas and is a star in the Pleiades constellation.

At less than a day old he began to run.

Found a tortoise shell, made holes in it and stretched string through before beginning to play the first lyre.

He was a remarkable infant.

Very pleased with himself, he then waited for his mother to fall asleep and then this little day-old trickster stole some cows from Apollo the sun god.

To cut a long myth short, he then lied to Apollo who took him up to their father Jupiter (Zeus) for reckoning.

Jupiter had after all proclaimed his new-born son to be god of thieves.

Side note – Mercury is also the god of commerce, wealth, good fortune, and fertility. He is the smartest of the Olympian gods and messenger to the gods.

Mercury then confessed all with rather a lot of pride and to appease his brother Apollo gave him the lyre.

Apollo, being the god of music was very pleased with this gift.

Despite their rocky start the brothers became firm friends.

Mercury is usually depicted with winged sandals, winged helmet and the caduceus.

A staff with two snakes entwining up it, which is a symbol much used today in several industries, not the least of which are health and business.

Harnessing Mercury…

In astrology, Mercury shows us how we think, listen, communicate, and make decisions.

Mercury it associated with the mind.

Just like in myth where Mercury/Hermes is the cleverest of the gods, who uses his smarts in diverse ways.

To delve deeper you will need to know where Mercury is on your natal chart.

Though I most often hear Mercury referred to as he, this is a Hermaphrodite energy, holding both male and female energy.

As seen in the symbol of the caduceus, with its male and female snake going up the center staff.

The word hermaphrodite has its origins with the Greek god Hermes.

As mentioned, Mercury rules the signs of Gemini and Virgo.

He (use the pronoun you like best) also does not enjoy the signs Sagittarius or Pisces.

Understanding your natal Mercury and how you think, speak and listen is very helpful.

It also links to the story we tell of ourselves out loud or just the looping in our head. Therefore, in understanding our default setting we can more easily change the narrative of our life.

From a health perspective our nervous system, brain, and even respiratory system link to this planet.

Spotlight Advice

Tuning in with Mercury

If you are resonating strongly with this Archetype, then I am going to give you a few suggestions.

Action Steps

1) Contemplate:

Take some time to contemplate the style in which you think.

Are you Fiery – think quick, creative, and enthusiastic?

Earthy – think slow, sensible, and practical?

Airy – think information driven, expressive, smart?

Or Watery – think emotional, sensitive, and empathetic?

2) Meditate:

Yes, yes, I know, I advise this tool often, but that is because it is so effective. Not much else can have the effect on calming and quieting the mind that meditation has.

Tips are to play around with meditation styles to find what works for you.

Remember I have a meditation group where you get 3 guided meditations a week from me via WhatsApp, contact me to join.

Also meditating once or when you are in a mental muddle and not seeing the results is not a good reflection of the effectiveness of meditation for you.

Put in the time.

‘I can’t meditate’ I hear you say. Give yourself some credit, of course you can. It took some practice, patience, and perseverance to learn to walk, to feed yourself, to read. So why is it that you think a few ‘failed’ attempts at meditation needs to be your whole story?

3) Change your story:

Once you have figured out what your default way of thinking is. And you have put in some time with meditation which gives you the mental space to observe your thinking quietly (amongst other things) it is time for the next step.

Get out of your mental comfort zone and change your mind, flip the script, change the narrative.

Use the phrase that feels good to you.

Words are Mercury’s domain.

Here are a couple of examples.

If you are a slow and practical thinker, take a risk or start timing yourself on a crossword.

If you have so many ideas but can’t hang onto them long enough to follow through, commit to writing them down and slow down long enough to pick one to follow through on.

MERCURY RETROGRADE ALERT

From May 29th to June 22nd we have Mercury retrograde in his home sign of Gemini, which will make it rather amplified in terms of any or all of the following needing reassessing, redoing, rethinking or reviewing.

Travel, Communication, Technology, Social Media, Online business, Anxiety, Options, Decisions, Siblings, Friends and Stories.

It is the perfect time to slow down and reflect.

Remember what we resist will persist, so just be in the process.

Journaling is amazingly effective for both Mercury and Gemini.

Astrology Buzz

Gemini May 22nd to June 21st Get clear this month when communicating.

Do not read a tone in a message or take others too seriously.

If you find you are being taken too seriously by others, just breathe and remember Mercury is in Retrograde.

No gossiping, it will easily travel and turn into a broken message hurting unintentionally.

Cancer June 22nd to July 22nd This is the first of the water signs, and we will need some mothering (think self-mothering the inner child) after the Gemini retrograde.

We may be a little frazzled and have hurt feelings.

Mother yourself first and then work on mending bridges.

New Moon

June New Moon is on the 10th in the sign of Gemini.

Time to seed your intentions, as we begin a new month.

This is a solar eclipse which makes it even more intense, and with Mercury retrograde within his home sign of Gemini.

That said if you do not already have a conscious moonifestation

practice you may want to join the Red Tent.

Red Tent

New Moon is when women gather in the Red Tent, it is the beginning of the lunar cycle of 28 days.

As we learn the ancient wisdom of Grandmother Moon and how to sow your seeds of intention at New Moon and to nurture those seeds intentionally through the month, magic happens.

Full Moon

If even one of these triggers you on some level, take the time to think about it, journal or meditate on it.

Use these tools mindfully and if you need extra support and guidance, I am available for consultations.

A quick recap of May’s Full Moon on the 26th in the sign of Sagittarius, opposing Sun in Gemini.

As it was a Full Super Moon Eclipse.

Questions you may ask yourself in Gemini/Sagittarius.

How can I follow through with what I have been learning, take it out of my head and into reality?

If you are Gemini dominant – Understanding comes easily, but how best can I actively serve?

If you are Sagittarius dominant – How best can I nurture my nature, rather than running from it?

June full moon is in Capricorn on the 24th opposing the Sun in Cancer.

These are both cardinal signs, which means they are very initiatory.

Here are some questions to reflect on that energy.

Questions you may ask yourself in Cancer/Capricorn;

Last year my home/work balance was turned upside down. How am I successfully balancing that now or what can I do to improve that balance?

If you are Cancer dominant – Where is my sentimentality and love of tradition stopping me succeeding?

If you are Capricorn dominant – How is my stubborn drive preventing me from appreciating what I already have?

Crystal picks for June

Mercury Theme

Blue Lace Agate if you have strong mercurial energy then this stone is a must. In fact, my eldest is a Gemini (Mercury ruled) and when he was overwrought as a toddler nothing could sooth him like a Blue Lace Agate and a nap.

To reboot the nervous system, calm and slow the mind and ensuing emotions.

It not only helps to calm the mind but also to improve how we speak and listen.

Mercury when frazzled may speak in short sharp bursts, with tones that do not foster good responses.

Or may only half listen, and even then, with impatience.

If this sounds familiar you have found a crystal ally in Blue Lace Agate.

Citrine varies from palest yellow to a deep burnt amber colour. It is part of the quartz family and I often describe it as being like encapsulated sunshine.

Mercury is a naturally cheerful chap, but when playing messenger for too many tasks, thoughts, projects etc. that frazzle may stop the fun.

Find the joy again with this stone.

It is also a great crystal to support clarity of thought and aid the memory.

All three crystals covered this month can be found in abundance in my home…and I am myself a Gemini, married to a Gemini with three children who have strong Gemini planets.

Flourite aah they are so beautiful and hold so many colours within. Each colour has its own flavour and speciality but as a family it is an amazing stone to balance the brain.

As we know by now there is a strong duality to Mercury (as there is with Gemini) and within that it is important not to let one side take control and monopolize.

When choosing a fluorite trust which one draws you in.

Only then should you use your mercurial mind to think about why you chose that colour.

Which chakra it relates to and what balancing may be needed in that chakra.

This is such a great crystal for clarity and focus.

Use for simple things like analysis paralysis to the more complex support of personality disorders.

Disclaimer: crystals should not be used as cures but rather as support.

Aromas of the month

Rosemary and Vetiver are my pics for Mercury.

Rosemary is the oil of remembrance, and this implies its effectiveness on our minds and memories.

It also happens to be great for the respiratory system.

One of Rosemary’s many uses that links to support our Mercurial energy is that it works with mental and adrenal fatigue.

It also stimulates the muscles and is a tonic for the body, which may either be neglected as we get sucked into a mental spiral or could be the key to breaking the cycle of analysis paralysis.

Get your body moving.

Vetiver is an interesting oil indeed; it is thick and sticky. The oil is extracted from the roots of the plant. As a rootie oil it is very grounding, counteracting the mental energy which lifts us up into our heads and almost out of our bodies when excessive.

Vetiver is also sedative and stimulating…how does that work you may ask.

Well, this is one of the reasons it is so effective for our focus and concentration.

Let me explain, when we are scattered and unfocused, swirling like a hurricane, this oil can sedate us, slowing us until it is as if we are in the eye of the storm.

From this narrow central point, we can focus almost with tunnel vision.

It then stimulates us to hone in.

Making it such an effective oil with things like learning difficulties, ADHD, poor retention, insomnia, PTSD and anxiety.

Uses and Blend suggestions:

Quiet Focus add 3 (6) drops Rosemary, 2 (4) drops Vetiver and 1 (2) Peppermint in your diffuser (roller – top with carrier oil).

This should work quickly to slow and focus your mind.

As always a little used often is the best way to get results with your oils. Whether you are diffusing and or using a roller do it as soon as your mind starts racing.

Peaceful Sleep – Again an option for diffusing and or a roller.

3 (6) drops Vetiver, 5 (10) drops Lavender and 3 (6) drops of Wild Orange. (roller – top with carrier oil)

Get your oils in place 30min to an hour before bed, and if using the application method reapply at bedtime.

Fostering a bedtime routine is hugely important if you are not a good sleeper.

Note: How Fast do Essential oils work?

It takes 22 seconds for the molecules to reach the brain.

In 2 minutes, Essential oils will be found in the bloodstream.

By 20 minutes they will affect every cell in the body

Venus

Venus is the Roman embodiment of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite.

In the myth, Aphrodite rose from the sea foam as a fully formed women from the severed genitals of Ouranus (Uranus), her father.

As reflected in this famous painting by Botticelli, of the birth of Venus.

Venus and Aphrodite are much the same with Venus being slightly fiercer.

She is often referred to as the Muse and is known to be beautiful, a lover of love and passion, to the point of much infidelity in her own marriage.

If you consider that the Greeks were more peaceable, they prettied up Aphrodite, focusing on the qualities they appreciated in the ‘perfect’ women.

Where the Romans were conquerors so their ideal muse of a woman could afford to be a little fiercer.

Venus/Aphrodite is a fierce mother, sometimes to the point of overprotectiveness.

She loves everything about love, passion, and beauty, often wanting to support us in this. However, her love is often conditional and if we do not do as she wants, she may become manipulative and cruel.

And that covers the mythology in a nutshell.

Harnessing Venus…

In astrology, Venus shows us how we love, what we value and what we attract. She is the inward force to Mars’ outward force.

To delve deeper you will need to know where Venus is on your natal chart.

Venus is our feminine expression; this does not relate to gender but rather yin energy which we all have.

She is the counterpart, to Mars, the yin to his yang.

As mentioned, Venus rules the signs of Taurus and Libra. She is also super happy being a mermaid in Pisces.

Venus is least comfortable in Aries, Scorpio, and Virgo.

Understanding your natal Venus and how you want to love and be loved, and what you truly value can be very supportive.

Venus is about value in all its forms. Self-worth, net worth, valuable relationships etc.

If you like to work with symbolism, the dove, swan, pheasant, pigeon, partridge, sheep or seashells would be good symbols to use to connect to the inner feminine.

Spotlight Advice

Tuning in with Venus

If you are resonating strongly with this Archetype, then I am going to give you a few suggestions.

Action Steps

4) Evaluate: Take some time to evaluate what is most valuable to you. Where your priorities lie, without judgement. If you have Venus in Taurus for example high quality linin may be a high priority. If Venus in Pisces music may take preference. But know what you value and what you don’t.

5) Self-Care: Once you know what you value, put some value back into yourself in the form of self-care. Anything from a massage to a beach walk as long as there is a sacred self-care feel. Don’t just pick up your journal and race through an entry (that sounds like Mars) diffuse your favourite oils, light a candle, and choose your pen colour, then mindfully journal. Do not just collapse onto your bed gratefully with a book. Make yourself a cup of tea and a delicious snack, get a cosy blanket and then snuggle up with your book. Can you see the difference?

6) Love up on your loves: Finally, when your cup is full, find your loves and love them up. Love them the way you want to be loved and love them the way they want to be loved. (read the 5 love languages by Gary Chapman, for more on this). If you are doing Venus well, you will begin to appreciate that not everyone wants to be loved in the same way, take the time to learn the wants of those you love. That is an act of love.

Astrology Buzz

Taurus April 20th to May 21st This is the first of the earth signs, it is a slow and steady energy, though don’t let that become lazy. It is also a great sign to look at your budget as it has good financial savvy. Self- worth and net worth are a bit of a theme in Taurus season.

Gemini May 22nd to June 21st Time to talk, communication is the name of the game. See if you can keep your communication clear and from the heart, rather than letting it get shallow and gossipy. Also, Mercury will be going retrograde on the 29th in Gemini, but more on that next month.

Full Moon was in Scorpio on the 27th opposing the Sun in Taurus.

Well, this was a Super Moon, so was likely pretty strong and intense.

It may have felt a bit like a pregnant pause in the process of what stays and what goes in your life.

Here are some questions to reflect on that energy.

Questions you may ask yourself in Taurus/Scorpio;

How can I find the courage to look at what is really preventing me from changing the old patterns in my life?

If you are Taurus dominant – What is most valuable to me and what do I genuinely want to attain?

If you are Scorpio dominant – What do I need to release or let go of?

If even one of these triggers you on some level, take the time to think about it, journal or meditate on it.

Use these tools mindfully and if you need extra support and guidance, I am available for consultations.

And then we have May’s Full Moon on the 26th in the sign of Sagittarius, opposing Sun in Gemini.

As this is also an Eclipse, we will cover it this month and again next month.

New Moon: April New Moon is on the 11th in the sign of Taurus.

Time to seed your intentions, as we begin a new month.

Red Tent

Dark Moon is when women gather in the Red Tent.

This is an ancient tradition that is regaining its popularity as we remember how to hear the whisper of our soul.

My wonderful cofacilitator, Shona has a Taurus moon and so this month it is her story we will hear.

5 years back I knew what my sun sign was but now, Wow!

To know my moon sign and rising sign, it all has so much more relevance to me and helps with the understanding of my uniqueness.

Since I was small, I have loved the different phases of the moon; it has always stirred a deep soul connection to lie outside in the night and watch the moon and stars dance together.

Now the understanding of the deep connection, that us woman have with the moon, our menstrual cycles, the gravitational push and pull on our oceans as well as on our bodies, as Grandmother Moon goes through her cycle.

Alongside this connection to the Moons phases, we have the amazing connection to each other in the red tent circle.

The support and true nurturance of our Moon sisters, I wish all women could experience the true beauty of a moon sister soul group.

I am so glad I have that. Thank you, Moon Sisters of the Lunar Lionesses for being my tribe.

Crystal picks for May

Venus Theme

Diamond as the saying goes, diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and this most certainly applies to the lovely lady Venus. This is not just because they are sparkly bling, but also because they are extremely strong and hard. And it took them a great deal of standing strong when faced with both heat and pressure in order to transform from coal to the dazzling diamond. Like Venus, the diamond wants you to shine as brightly as possible, to never dim your light, and to take life’s challenges and let them make you even more dazzling.

Clear Quartz let’s face it though, we don’t all have diamonds to work with and so I always give the humble Clear Quartz as a great alternative. Humble though it may seem beside the bedazzle of the diamond, this stone is called the master crystal for a reason. The Yoda of the crystal world, it is clear, firm, and supportive. Costs a good deal less than a diamond but can do much of the same work and a whole lot more of its very own. I expect if you have been collecting you will have more than one clear quartz in your collection.

Rose Quartz and how can we forget this beautiful stone, with its strong connection to love and mothering, just like Venus. I love to have rose quartz in every room in the house. Most especially at the front door to allow only those with loving intentions entry and in the bathrooms as it is a crystal that loves water and is great for the complexion.

Aromas of the month

Cinnamon and Geranium are my pics for Venus.

I am not the best at choosing favourites, of anything, so just a reminder here that these are just some ideas, not the full spectrum of what would work well for the energy of Venus. Many wonderful oils were on my list such as Rose, Ylang Ylang, Neroli, Clary Sage…well you get the point.

But let us begin with the 2 that shouted most loudly to be on the stage this month, Cinnamon speaks to Venus’ sultry, spicy, sexy side. Where she is all about love and passion. This is even more prominent when she presents as evening star which she has recently transitioned to. When she is morning star, she has a more no nonsense, send her minions into battle kind of vibe.

Back to Cinnamon it is a spice oil that boosts circulation, creates a lovely warm tingling feeling in massage, adds an exotic note to food, boosting many body systems and generally adding to your spice for life.

Geranium is a glorious oil to use to help connect to the feminine (whatever your gender), it is a flower and a herb, that is well known for its usefulness in beauty regimes. As Venus knows how to use her beauty, and values how she presents herself to the world, adding Geranium to your self-care will be very Venusian indeed. It also calms and balances the moods very quickly.

Uses and Blend suggestions:

Beautify your Mood add 3 drops Geranium, 3 drops Bergamot and 2 Clary Sage in your diffuser.

Watch the irritation dissipate and feel the kindness flow.

Romantic Massage – into 15ml of carrier oil (fractionated coconut, grapeseed, sweet almond etc) add;

2 drops Cinnamon, 2 drops Geranium and 5 drops of Wild Orange.

This will be great for a self-massage but even nicer for a couples massage. It is slightly more feminine than last month (obviously, says Venus) but with the spice and the citrus it should work for everyone.

(little disclaimer, essential oils should not be put into any of your orifices except your mouth if they are safe for internal use)

Note: How Fast do Essential oils work?

It takes 22 seconds for the molecules to reach the brain.

In 2 minutes, Essential oils will be found in the bloodstream.

By 20 minutes they will affect every cell in the body
