16 years ago, or thereabout I was given a wonderful gift.
It is a gift that has been giving back to me ever since.
In fact, it has given back to my family and my clients too.
I went on holiday to Durban to visit a friend whose partner had a company selling essential oils.
Sniffing around the place was pure delight and deep within me there was a remembering.
At the time, I felt a passion for these magical aromas was being ignited and I quickly made the decision to spend what little money I could spare buying my first oil allies.
Knowing what I now do, I realise that the ignited passion was really a deep remembering on a soul level, for there is no doubt I have worked with plants and their essences for many lifetimes.
My journey with essential oils began before I met my husband, before I became a mom.
Looking back now I see it came at a crucial time of transition that I didn’t realise I was in at the time (good old hind sight).
I refused to see that my relationship was falling apart, when two very important things happened. It was these two things that helped pull me through the broken heart I was about to receive.
The first was a teeny tiny, black and white stray kitten found its way to me. She, Olly, was to be with me through so many powerful shifts to come I should like to dedicate a post to her soon.
And secondly, I found Aromatherapy, or perhaps like Olly, Aromatherapy found me.
If Aromatherapy is a tool you already have in your toolbox you will understand what I mean.
If you are just being drawn in to the wonder of aroma that it is as powerful as it sounds.
I teach about Essential Oils because there are cautions and contra indications. It is important to understand the ratios of blending and not to use the oils undiluted. But it is not hard to learn, and it is well worth it too.
I believe we should all be using natures wonderful essences in our home.
There are so many uses and applications that I teach, but here I want to show you how 16 years or thereabout later, I am using oils in my home.
Not a bath goes by in my house without oils in it, one oil, a blend of oils or oils with my home-made bath salts.
I use a homemade night moisturiser loaded with natural goodness. We have a gel for sore muscles or sunburn always at the ready.
My home-made heal all is in every room of the house including the car.
I have fabulous deodoriser I make in bicarb for wee wee beds, stinky shoes, carpet cleaning and more.
I make garden sprays when I am doing well, and cleaning blends for the house, again when I am organised.
I use cotton balls laced with Cedarwood, Sandalwood and Patchouli instead of mothballs. What a joy it is to open a cupboard or suitcase to those smells rather than the horrific moth ball smell.
A Tea Tree gargle for a sore throat or mouth ulcer is never far.
Lavender and Tea Tree (the only two oils that can be applied neat) are our ‘go to’ treatments for a bite, cut, sting, rash or itch in my home.
Natural mozzie repellent.
I love a natural facial (not that I often find the time these days), or a foot soak.
Massage which my kids LOVE.
And who can forget the emotional pick me up with every sniff.
This is without much thought, so there are bound to be many more applications for me.
I absolutely love blending and feel the magic of an apothecary as I prepare nature’s medicine.
These are just a glimpse at the fun and versatility of essential oils. Once you get started you will hardly imagine your life without them. As with everything the more you work with them the more confident and competent you will become.
I Love to teach others how to play and thrive with oils too, for queries please comment.
