About 6 months ago my husband got me a fitbit. Let me start by saying I was not sure this was a good idea, and here is why.
I have my Saturn in Virgo, which means I can be very goal focused and pretty hard on myself if I don’t achieve my goals.
On the plus side after years of working on myself in the deepest ways, I use said Saturn in Virgo to aid me.
On the other side of the scale is the self-flagellating that happens when I do not live up to my high standard of myself.
So, my fitbit arrived I set up the targets very low, rather wanting to achieve them easily and enjoy the process, than aggressively try to push for my targets.
It took a little getting used to, but I actually really did begin to enjoy this process and did find myself hitting the targets too easily and getting a little more competitive with myself and driving them up a little.
I was keeping an eye on myself and it was going well.
Between 9 and 5 at 10 minutes to the hour if I have not done 250 steps in that time I feel a little buzz on my wrist (Pavlov’s dog) and it says, ‘take me for a stroll’ or ‘only 154 steps to win the hour’ or ‘time to roll’. And usually no matter what I am doing I get up and walk to make tea, pop for a wee, or just roam around my home.
Okay I will be honest if I am with a client, I do feel a little anxiety that I am going to lose the hour.
I use those words because my watch gives me an atta boy, well girl.
I get another buzz on my wrist telling me I won the hour.
What can I say, it’s like a little girl getting a sticker from the teacher.
Now you may not know this about me but I have fibromyalgia, which equates to chronic pain and often chronic fatigue too.
Many people don’t know because I decided long ago, I would not let this be my story.
However, I do fit the personality type for this type of condition to a tee.
I am highly sensitive energetically and emotionally, psychic even.
I am a nervous system type of person who is constantly busy in body and even more in mind…basically I can’t shut down, even in sleep.
(without my tools that is)
And through this process I have begun to realize that when in pain, I want to rest, to shut down to let the pain settle.
In an attempt to stop my busy all the time personality.
This is often helpful, well for me it is the rest and the right essential oil.
But I have also begun to realize thanks to my teacher Miss Fitbit that there is rest and then there is the point of being too sedentary. Which actually leads to more pain.
I can get sucked into writing and not look up for a few hours and when I do get up my body is stiff and sore.
I teach yoga and know that slow mindful exercise is very powerful for me and in yoga I hold that, in my work I hold that.
But my personality with a Fiery Aries moon and Leo rising likes to push activity.
As a result, I often do too much and feel more pain.
So here is what the dear Miss Fitbit has taught me, that I think may be helpful for you too.
We do need to walk the line between being sedentary and being active where pain management is concerned.
We need to understand our personality and know where we tend to push too hard or do too little.
Once we do, it is time to lovingly tweak our patterns to adapt and to watch magic begin to happen.
I do a weekly Oracle reading on Insta and Facebook. This week the card I chose to be of extra importance for me was the card flexible. That is really what it is to change our ways.
My body is flexible, but for me and maybe for you too, changing my habits and the way I think or self-talk, well I can be a little more rigid.
I have a tool box that goes on for days of things I have used over the years.
I am always adding tools and it is part of what I teach and offer to the world. I am going to give you a few ideas.
Don’t be afraid to kiss a few frogs.
Try them and see, but do give each a little time before throwing it to the curb.
Remember as you get to know yourself better you will know what works for you in which situation.
1. I am a huge fan of journaling, whichever kind you like. Currently I journal with the 8 phases of the moon. But there is dream journaling, morning pages, journaling when the mood strikes and more to choose from.
2. Essential Oils, this works for me on all levels, pain management, mood management, motivation, support, relaxation, balance and on and on I go.
3. Exercise, find your sweet spot. I have discovered gentle and consistent works well for me daily. With yoga several times a week and some cardio, especially when I am needing to burn off steam and anxiety.
You need to play around and see what works for you.
I find understanding my astrology chart a hugely helpful tool in this area and others.
Now it is up to you.
You are worth the effort.
You deserve to go on an excavation dig to find the treasures that lie deep within.
Time to polish them up and let them shine.
You know what a difference a good teacher makes. We never know who, what or how those teachers arise.
I want to thank Miss Fitbit for helping me find this treasure in myself. And hopefully in sharing, helping you find yours too.
